I have a few points.
One: We need to come together - not be split apart. Do not put up another damn forum/mailinglist/etc. We already have too many of these. Information may get posted over on TrollForums that never makes it over here. Then later someone has to come on here and ask the same question that has already been answered.
Two: We are doing ourselves a disservice by relying entirely on a forum. Let's say we have a thread on wheel sizing (example). A lot of great information gets posted but is sprinkled in between a bunch of "Me Too" posts and some inside jokes. If someone reads the entire thread they will get the answers to their questions and not need to ask again. Why don't they? Most people don't want to read through 6+ pages to get to the information. We need a comittee to take important topics like these and boil them down to the facts and make another page just for that - and before anyone jumps on me here let me say that THAT PAGE SHOULD NOT BE IN THE FORUM! It should be a static page outside of the forum software - linked to from a FAQ or Tech Tips sticky or something. If in the future new information comes up that should go into that page then we discus it in the forum and then boil it down to the correct information and update the static page.
Three: This whole nonsense about "You must have XXX horsepower or we won't let you in..." crap is just BS! Build the damn site so people can enter stats and they can be searchable. Imagine visiting a site where you can enter certain criteria and find those Supras that you want. Say Timmy visits and he wants to see all Supras running an upgraded turbo and nitrous. Click, click, and click and up comes a list tailored to Timmy's wishes. Say Jimmy comes in and wants to see all those Supras with drag times faster than 14.5seconds. Click, click and WHAM! If Duane wants to filter the Supras by all those with over 500whp he can do that. Now say I want to go in and see all bone stock Supras - I can do that too. Much like searching for someone on MySpace you should have a lot of options available for your search. What you end up with is a place for EVERY MkIII owner and not just some elitist - you must think the same way I think - site. Rating of the cars at that point is fine and all but it would just be a popularity contest - and rather pointless in my mind.
If we build this properly we can provide a real service to the community and who knows... we may even find fewer people asking "What is the birdcage light on my dash?"
I know it looks like a massive task but we have a lot of really talented people here. If we could all come together instead of just running off and doing our own thing we could make something really GREAT!
