Shooting for 500, will be happy with whatever as long as it's over 400 though

Really with the GT3040R though I'm looking for a nice wide powerband moreso than peak power.

Well it's time to bring this thread back from the dead.

I finally have my own place with a garage now. So that's a plus. But in having my own place, I also have to spend time on house stuff. Boo!!

I thought I'd try to get the Supra running about a month ago. Filled 'er up with coolant. The water neck started spewing coolant. The gasket was in crooked so that was an easy fix. Filled it up again, so far so good. A few minutes later I notice a wet spot on the block. The bypass pipe that wraps around the motor and feeds the heater core and oil cooler was leaking. I had welded the feed for the rear turbo shut (only need one with the single), and in doing so I had opened up a leak in the brazing at a nearby joint. ARRGH!!

So I was weighing my options. The pipe is U-shaped and wraps around the motor, and there's no way to remove it with the motor in the car. I tried tipping the transmission down enough to slide it back into the tunnel, and there's just no room. I figured I might use a GE pipe instead, because it doesn't wrap around to the oil cooler, and I have a Greddy oil cooler and filter relocation kit I had been meaning to install that could replace the factory oil/water cooler.

So it was time to get the leaky pipe off the car. I finally got a chance to use the 18V reciprocating saw in the kit that I got for Christmas. :evil2: Needless to say it's off now. :evil2:

I borrowed a GE pipe from Josh (dok33) to test fit. It fits in place but hits the block. I think if I bend it a little it will work, but I need to get my own pipe before I try that. So I've got one on order. Waiting for that...

I decided since I've got the wiring harness out (in order to remove the manifold), it would be a good time to properly wire in my gauges. Which brings me to the next thing:

Thanks AEM for making a gauge that can't old up to 2 weeks in the sun. Boo!

Where'd you get the little gauge pod from?

It's an Autometer pod. I bought it from their outlet on eBay IIRC. It was water transfer printed in a carbon pattern (yuck) so I painted over it. The carbon one was like $10 vs $30 for the black one so I bought the carbon one and painted it black :)

Edit: by the way the other 2 gauges are ProSport and the pod came empty.

Horay for progress! Looks like you need a prosport A/F gauge in that pod :)

Yes, progress is a good thing, even if it is slow :)

Yeah it's too bad that they still haven't released their wideband. I like the AEM because it also has an output to hook to the EMS. I just noticed the new version of the ProSport A/F gauge can now display wideband data, it just doesn't have a controller. So I might look into getting a controller or just using the AEM gauge as one if it still works and use the ProSport display.

Thats crazy about the AEM gauge..Whatd AEM have to say about that?

I didn't even bother with the warranty... it's only got a 1 year warranty and I bought it longer than that ago. I dremeled the plastic out of the way and hooked it up and it still works.

The story of the Supra:

FYI the 7M-GE oil filter stud does not fit the 1JZ. Now I'm looking for a standard 3/4"x16 stud.

I wired in some Deutsch connectors for the gauge sensors, and added the wiring for them into the main harness. I also moved the pigtail for the narrowband oxygen sensor from the very end of the harness to the very beginning, so it will now plug in to the harness near the ABS pump instead of near the water pump. This is much closer to the location of the sensor with the single turbo installed.

I rerouted the A/C clutch wire into the engine harness using the provision in the EA2 plug.

I've also got another Deutsch connector coming that is going to go inline with the reverse light switch wiring, since the factory connector location is damn near impossible to reach with the trans in place. It will go near the starter so that if I want to remove the harness from the motor again I can disconnect it instead of overlooking it and snapping the wires (oops :icon_redf).

All of the gauges are being wired through the IG1 plug and dash harness so I won't have any loose wires to deal with.

Lol, nice. Lemme know if you need any help this weekend, although you probably don't want my ghettofab methods used on your car :)

I'm parting the Escort right now but hopefully I'll get time to get the 2J ready to drop in before Saturday if you're free ;)

Parting the Escort? :nono:

I should be free on Saturday. Got some yard work to do but I'm going to try to get to it before then.

Yup, we bought an '06 Escape last weekend and I'm going to keep her '96 Escort for making the 800mi round trip to visit her on weekends. No one would pay what I wanted for the wagon whole so I'm putting it back to stock and selling it.

Thus far I've resisted the temptation to turbo the '96, having to work on the wagon constantly has helped that. Don't want to cut into any more Supra time :) Plus me and a couple of guys from work are building an Escort for the Grassroots Motorsports $2008 challenge :D

New gauges in the cluster, plus red needles for the factory ones:

The Prosports are white backlit and the factory gauges will be changed to match.

Also got a GA70 9K tach:

I'm thinking I'll switch out the turbo LED with a red one, hook it to the AEM and use it as a shift light :)

Last night I got the dash pulled out and the harness pulled off of it, so now my next task is to add the new gauge wires to the dash harness.

how did the POR-15 paint work out for the block? I've used it before to fix other problems like hatch rust. I want to purchase the engine painting kit from them.

I'm very happy with it so far. Time will be the true test but I'm confident in this stuff. I got the engine painting kit and probably have enough left for 3 more motors. I love the look it gives too, 100x better than the bare block.
