IAT/MAP Sensor Placement

I have an AEM EMS that is begging to be installed. I've read where various folks placed their sensors, but I am concerned about heat soak on the IAT sensor...problem is, the best place to install it is in the back of the 3000 pipe. Any problems with heat soak on the sensor in this location?

Concerning the MAP sensor (it's an AEM 3.5 BAR)...I'd like to run it from the upper intake manifold at the stock location where the boost gauge sensor fitting is. This fitting is feeding the stock lines to the heater valve, the cruise control, and aftermarket mechanical boost gauge. Will adding the MAP sensor to this chain be a problem?

Wide open to suggestions...there is a tuner here in Phoenix that will be able to tune the AEM. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ;)

I come from a land down under
I have one in the back of my Plenum and another in front of the TB in the Cold Pipe, RADICAL difference in readings so I guess it depends if you're going to let the AEM do heat based corrections.

My 5 Bar Map is just plumbed into the Plenum.

Actually I was going to use the IAT to rid myself of the Lex AFM...will the location just prior to the throttle body (stock plenum) be ok?

IAT- any location near the stock TB location doesn't really work- too much heat. you'll heatsoak the sensor quickly and get useless readings. your best bet is somewhere on the upper IC pipe before it crosses over the exhaust....

MAP- any post TB vac line will work. if nothing else, get a nipple fitting and mounting it remotely.

Will mounting the IAT close to a HKS SSQV flange have any impact?

well the heat soak issue is true with the Delco (GM) based IAT

the Bosch fast reponse IAT doesn't suffer the heat soak syndrome.

Who sells the Bosch? Is the theard size the same as the Delco?

unfortunatly the delco unit is american and as such uses Nation Tapered Pipe threads. the bosch unit being European uses metric system.

the bosch unit requires a mount that looks like the stock O2 mount. It is composite. For some reason I can not find it now.. hmmmm

very interesting.. if you find more info send it this way.. my gm iat gets heatsoaked a little in my charge pipe cause my rad fan blows on it (heats up the pipe).. so at no throttle it gets warm (100*) and gives a false reading.. i was thinking just mounting it out of the engine bay..

that is not heat soaking ;)

that will happen to whatever sensor you have especially if the radiator fan is throwing hot air at it. What you need it to place the IAT somewhere else.

Many factory IAT sensors are right on the intake manifold, as that is the heat of the air just before it is mixed with the fuel. I know our IAT is in the AFM , but the manifold after the TB isn't a bad idea, not counting the heatsoak problems to the sensor Dr J was talking about.

yea, sorta is.. isn't a true repersentaion of the air going it..

it doesn't imeadiatly come down, it will sit ~ 100-110* unless i got wot and get some air flowing through there then itll start to drop cooling down the pipe.. But its not huge increase over ambient so wont throw tuning off that much.. i just would like to know how hot it is, haha
