Oh shit so you want to learn?

Why do you think I posted a link to the TSRM you MOMO

When you make a statement like 'If you don't know how to replace struts, you should give up now while you are ahead.'. Then to me thats saying, if you dont know how to do it then dont bother to try.

Its goes along with people that have the mentality of, if you have to ask that question then you shouldnt even be asking it. I just think people need a chance to learn and not be pushed off because they never done something before.

Everyones gotta learn to walk, replace struts, do a BHG or whatever else for the first time lol.

Adjustable leaves you with Koni's as far as I know. The KYB's for our cars are cheap and work, but I believe they're actually a softer strut. The bilsteins and Koni seem to be favorites. There's also Tokico.

Check the vendor listings on this site as well as the product review section.

I think for all around use KYB's are a good choice, I've had mine on for a while now and like them. I could really say if Koni's are better but I've heard you pay for the name.

For the front, remove the little bolt that holds the brake line bracket to the spindle, then remove the long bolt that holds the upper control arm to the frame. Swing the control arm out of the way. That bolt has to go behind the plastic inner fender well, and can be a pain sometimes. Little hint: Make sure the washer at the head of the bolt stays close to the control arm, and doesn't slide back with the head of the bolt. Swing the control arm out of the way. Undo the bottom strut mount bolt, then remove the top nuts. Use spring compressors to clamp the spring, and change the struts. For the back, I popped the rear speaker covers, and trimmed the plastic back a bit(just in the corners, and only enough so that the speaker covers would still cover them) so I could get a socket and extension in there. You don't have to remove the upper control arms in the back. Remove the lower strut mount bolt, and pry the bottom of the strut out. There's a little spacer in one of the lower mount bolt holes. You'll need to move it back a little bit so that the new strut goes in easy. There are multiple ways to move them. I usually knock it back with a hammer and punch, but a search will turn up some easier ways. Undo the top three nuts. You might have to push the spindle down a bit, but you can pull the strut down and to the side. If you get it right, you can pull the strut out without removing the upper control arm.

Hope that helps :)

I forgot: Mark the upper mount location on the body. They sit in there at a particular angle, and need to be installed correctly. I usually put a mark on the body, and a mark on the mount itself, only on one side. You can use masking tape as the marks, as it's easy to remove :)

Hey,

I am going to tackle the struts Sunday or Tuesday and wanted to know if you were going to still do yours with photos. If not, I'll go with the info I've got. Thanks.

Considering this is General Maintenance for the CHASSIS, and not the actual motor, I'm moving this to the General Discussion forum, where 1) You'll likely get more traffic, and 2) That's where it should be. :)

Anything related to the CHASSIS of the car goes in General Discussion. If it's specifically related to the motor of the car, then put it in the appropriate area for that motor. :)

I come from a land down under
Another "tip" if it hasn't been mentioned already is to put a jack under the lower arm and take the cars weight before you tighten the Upper arms.

If you do them up at full droop you'll tear the centres out of the bonded stock bushings at the first big bump.
