The weak point of this rod is the stock bolt, and then the drilled oil hole/squirter in the shoulder... (And it's loss of oil pressure right where you need it the most... )

The stock rods are pretty good for engines under 500hp, and that will see stock RPM limits in my view.

Some have made more than 500hp, but others have seen failures at less, but not much less.

My rods are now from Pauter, and have no such holes.. also my rods are custom sized for 2" bearings from a 327SBC. This is a smaller rod journal than the stock 7M. The rods in the stroker motor are also 6" long, slightly more than the stock 7M rods too.

I'll let adjuster chime in.

so.... its 100% ok not to have any holes in the rod bearing area? theres 1 on each side of the piston pin bushing.... but none in the rod area... but, your all saying its ok? i'll go take some pics of the rods for you all to look at.

your oil is fed to the big end of the rods via the crankshaft. There is plenty of oil splashing around to keep everything lubed when the engine is running. That is how the rods are designed for eagle and others and that hole is actually a weak point on the stock rods.

but if you want the hole send them to me and i will drill you a hole :biglaugh:

I come from a land down under
Cool at least the bores will get oiled by the block squirters.

I was a bit worried by this using the Pauters as they don't have the Oil holes either, I made sure my idle pressure was enough to open the squirters around idle.

Pauter now offer notches in the big end flanks to preform this function.

Just about every aftermarket rod that I have worked with for the 2J or 7M lacks them. I've never had a problem.

When did Pauter start notching them? That's new to me.

I've always just installed new block sprayers from Toyota during the build.

since we're on the subject of lubricating the pin/bore.... do you think an NA would see problems with lack of lubrication on said items with a crank scraper installed, since there would be no oil squirters to spray directly?
