well Supra sits in the garage still and I have done absolutly nothing about it for the last 8 months and figured mabye I should get off my lazy ass and do something about it. Now The engine has rod knock And I think mabye Its time to start learning about the 7m in person. I have owned 2 supras for the last 4 years but Never really did any serious hands on work always paid a shop to do it. Hardest thing I probaly ever did was swap turbos. So basiclly what im getting at Is I think mabye I should attemp to try and pull this motor myself and rebuild it myself. Now I don't have intentese engine knowledge but I do know the basics and some things and figure this be a good time to learn more anyways. I lost my lisecen till feburary of next year anyways SO I got alot of time on my hand and don't need the car as a DD anymore:cry: . I have all the basic tools(wrenchs, sockets, etc.) but Im guessing I will need a good torque wrench, engine stand and hoist. Anything else that I will need????

Basiclly MY question is think I should attempt this or Am I just going to make more of a mess then I started with and should just pay a shop to do it?:1zhelp:

I come from a land down under
Find a Mentor that has a few successful 7M builds and have him oversee your work, there are many small things with a 7M build that will trip up the novice and end in failure.

It's NOT a simple motor even despite it's age.

I was quoted just about 800 plus or minus for all my engine work and to put it together for me. Keep in mind this is the bottom end only and i supply whatever parts necassary.

best thing to do in my opinion is to buy the dealer repair manual. can't go wrong there except for the different torque head specifications. also, get in touch with driftmotion. really nice guys and pretty sure they would be glad to help you in whatever you need in regards to not only parts but also suggestions.

hope this helps.

go for it! Buy yourself a lot of plastic baggies, label things as you take it apart and read the TSRM. Heck, MrBaboon (local friend) had no idea what he was doing before his build, now he's learned a metric-ass-ton about the 7M in a short amount of time and in waist deep of parts :)

I'd agree with IJ though for sure, any mentors in your area?

Reg Riemer lives in Alta. He's a Supra man, knows alot of owners. Perhaps you could e-mail him. Maybe he knows someone round your neck of the woods? He's on the suprasonic site.
