88 Gray Door Panels vs. 91-92 Shadow Gray Door Panels

So i'm looking to get 91-92 shadow gray door panels for my 88 that has gray cloth interior. From looking at pictures the vinyl part of the 91-92 panel seems to look like the same color as the 88 vinyl. The color of the insert and carpet at the bottom doesn't matter because I can swap those off my panels. Can any body confirm if the vinyl is the same color? I would love to get a pair of 91-92 door panels but I want to make sure that they will match my dash.

Nope its darker. And the door handles are different shape as with the switches. Speaker grilles are bigger. And i think thats it.

Dang alright. ya the main reason I want them is because I have the 6.5" speakers up front and I want the bigger speaker grill. Looks like i'm just going to have to get some 87 or 88 panels to replace my punctured ones.

Yes, however, it requires more than a fair bit of modification to the 88 speaker pods.

Toyota took 89/90 door panels and they actually cut out the door panel, and affixed (and this is the hard part to replace), new metal brackets to hold the speaker grilles on.

While handles and switch bezels were changed, you can swap them over with no problem...

Yes they can, I have this in my car, but half your speaker will be covered by the door panel. Still sounds ok. I have the 91 shadow grey door panels I thought of using for the grill and bracket but decided against trashing 2 perfectly good shadow grey door panels.

Could the 91-92 pods fit in the 88 door panel with the 91-92 grills? Or is that wishful thinking?

I have 91-92 speaker pods in my car now behind my 88 panels and sure they work but like whats been said they cover about half the speaker. I think i'm going to investigate putting the 91-92 grills onto my 88 panels

Here you can see how the metal bracket is different, and how the door panel is cut. You could probably cut and fit a 91/92 speaker cover, but the lower parts will not be secured. If anyone wants to try it, I have a spare 91/92 shadow gray speaker cover for sale.

Actually, they bolt to the doors. The door panels go over the top of them.
