Another update: Adam (supranforever on here) is working on building a FFIM and decided that my car needed one. Here's some project photos he sent me:

using a mockup head to get booster clearance.

should be pretty damn sweet, considering that, since this is the first one, I'm just covering materials.

haha, well, the car was hitting a "wall of missing," and, long story short, we pulled the intake manifold and saw coolant sitting in the lower runners, so we thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and replace the headgasket....

...hence the teardown.

And, since adam decided that he was building a manifold, and since my car was in pieces, it seemed like a logical step.

And, in case you're wondering, the fender is back on it. I'm still trying to figure out how to mount the bumper, though. Plus, I think it looks kinda goofy without the rest of the kit, but oh well, I got it in a trade, so I can't complain too much, right? :icon_bigg

...oh, and I also ended up with most of a set of JE pistons (two are messed up, hence the "most") for a 7m, so I may be going that route. I'm really just waiting for the motor to blow up, then I'll make my decision. lol.

Im using JE's also. What's wrong with the two messed up ones?

Well, one melted (guy ran them on a horrible tune, apparently), and it looks like it threw schrapnel into the other one. The outer edge of the second one is fine, but it's got some pretty deep nicks in the valve-groove (or whatever you want to call it) on the top of it. I'm sure it would still hold compression, but seems a bit sketchy for me.

The other four are fine, though. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

So they are un-useable. Good luck trying to order two pistons :icon_razz

You can get them from horsepower freaks. Or, well, it's on their website. Otherwise, I'll be placing a call to JE to see what I can convince them to do.

lol.

UPDATE:

Since some people were worried about the motor being torn apart and whatnot, I'll give you a sneak peek...

Better shot of intake manifold.

..and my personal favorite:

OBVIOUSLY it's not running yet, but it's getting closer. I also figured out my boost problem. The insert inside the ssqv had shifted, not sealing properly. It's been remedied.

Lookin good! I'm impressed that you used a real turbo and an FFIM and are still in under $6k!

Yep. I haven't done all the figuring, but I think I'm in around 4 right now.

Granted, that's with the 7m, not the 2j, but when it blows I'll just have the expense of a bellhousing/flywheel, since everything else can be adapted to fit the different motor.

That, and I have some amazing people helping me out as far as finding/building parts is concerned.
