So... This is the end of the rebuild section of this build thread!! Today the car saw its first 40km's on the road, with the only hiccup being that the water temp and fuel gauge stopped working half way though the drive. Just to recap, this was what was done to the car while it was off the...

Quick update, Started the car tonight for the first time!! Ran quite rough, but after a little while it started to run really well, so quite happy on that front. Small issues, my FPR is leaking between the rail and the the body of the FPR a slight amount, got a small coolant leak from the...

    Proper ARP pre load procedure

Cheers for that Ian. I'll probably end up doing a last one when i switch to full synthetic, I'm paranoid that it's going to blow! (arn't we all?)

    Proper ARP pre load procedure

Sorry, I know it might have been a thread hijack, but thought it would be useful in this thread for future searchs. Can anybody clear this up for me?

    Proper ARP pre load procedure

After the first retorque after the first 5 heat cycles, do you do anymore? How many times should I retorque the head after a full rebuild (with new studs and MHG) and at what intervals?

Yeah, I made sure of that when I got the block back, just never occured to me to slide the driveshaft in for a test fit. For some reason I thought the timing cover had to be on.. =S

Ian, unfortunately I didn't bother checking them when i was putting the rotating assembly together... Lesson learnt! Dan, as far as I know, they are the ones that belong there. We just put all the bolts in and did them up to make sure the gaskets and FIPG seal up nicely with the contacting...

Big update... Finally got the last of the parts 2 weeks ago, and after a hecktic 4 days of having to disassemble the motor again and reassmble it, Dad and I left the garage tonight with the motor looking like this... The reason for the disassemble was due to the fact that on monday we...

Best location for water temp probe

Don't quite understand your theory. But if the thermostat doesn't open with the temp senser after the thermostate, it isnt going to get any where near the real temperature of water in the block. At least putting it in the cold inector port your gonna know the rough water temp before it opens...

Best location for water temp probe

Put it this way. I ordered this part In 16mm x 1.5 and it went straight into the cold start injector time switch. Don't know wh it won't work for you, but its working perfectly for me. As for an accurate reading. The Thermostat will be open before you need to know exactly and accurately what...

Best location for water temp probe

I've got a temp sender in the Cold Start Injector Switch. It's a 16mm by 1.5 pitch.

    freeze plugs

So, It's a matter of getting it in with minimal fuss, then hitting it in the center to force push outwards into the block? What could I use to hit the center? Yeah, I didnt really have a choice unfortunately. The shop I took it to took all the plugs out automatically before hot tanking it.

    freeze plugs

Ok, so bit of a thread resurrection, but it's on topic. The machine shop that hottanked my block punched this one out with the rest, so I just picked up this plug from Toyota and its concave. 1) Is it suposed to be concave? 2) If it is, is it supposed to curve into the motor, or out of the...

Again, Been a long time since I have given an update. After a 16 day holiday in hospital whoring my body out to drugs for money (which, to Ian's dismay doesn't have me growing limbs from different places or turning into some genetically modified freak :P), I've been making some sweet progress...

What drugs/head injury prompted your Username?

Well, It all started about 6 years ago when I was riding mountain bikes. A few of the older riders decided to take me over to Mt Bulla to race in the national series and while there decided I needed a nickname. At this stage in my life I had a massive mop of curly hair, and I mean MASSIVE!! One...

    WTF is this connector

Well that just answered my question! i've got a manaul and relays #2 and #3 are only used in the autos. Cheers! Why would the Auto need 3 relays for the AC? Unless it would just use one of those 3 relays. /hijack....
