Well this is just going to be a text update. Both motors have been torn down and gone through. The NA motor is back together and in the black car. There is still a lot of electrical work to be done to get it running again. It seemed the more I took apart the more stuff I found wrong with the...

Easiest thing is to get a head gasket set. Add belts, plugs, hoses, crankshaft and oil pump drive seals and you have all the peices needed for a complete HG job. The only thing extra would be ARP studs or bolts and metal head gaket if you plan on pushing things later on.

The only thing I see missing from the list is knock sensors. The GTE engine uses 2 and the NA only one. Everything else seems to be on the lists.

I believe the only difference in console is the boot itself.

Timing off would cause the exhaust temps to be high. But as stated would run like crap off idle. Then again it could be. He is after all driving around with an inoperable wastegate with a known bad radiator. How much more brilliance is needed?

Far from easy. The stated range is common knowledge. Keeping the engine operating in that range is another trick all unto itself. That is a whole other subject that has been covered quite well by many others as you pointed out.

There have been times when I have had to cycle mine all the way through the temps to get heat going again. Turn it all the way up to 85° then go all the way down to 65°. Then set it to desired temp and see if that works. Fan speed and zone selection dont seem to affect it.

Normal operating range is 195-210.

Read my previous post and IJ's post very well. Then do what we are suggesting. Stop throwing the same parts at the car hoping it will fix itself.

Hmmm...I found a part # as 39615 being a new MC from NAPA. Might be a special order but can be had. The other odd thing I notice is that NAPA catalog shows a difference between ABS and non ABS but the TEPC doesnt.
