important 1JZ rear main seal question

Where the hell is the front main seal??!! In the toyota repair manual schematic all it just shows are the camshaft oil seals, rear main, and the one that goes into the front of the oil pump. Is that the front main? Or is it behind the camshaft timing gear (the small bottom one)?

    Pre-1JZ drop in checklist

Yep it's a supra motor - rear sump/hydro fan mkiiichip, yes I sent them my harness, I don't believe they do it as an outside service, unless you are having them do a swap for you, they did it for me only because I bought a clip from them and paid for the wiring work. There's a price for...

    Pre-1JZ drop in checklist

No power steering cooler, I'll have to check that out. What do you mean same for the hydro fan? There is a cooler for that as well? I'm going to bench test the starter that came with the motor today. THanks for the tips.

    Pre-1JZ drop in checklist

Can anyone suggest any deletions/ modifications to any 7MGTE engine bay components that are best completed before putting in the 1JZGTE? What about on the 1J itself? Hosing/wiring (I'm waiting on Driftmotion to complete my harness)/ any basic prep to the 1J before the drop in (im changing...

Why must I sometimes put R154 in 1st gear to get into reverse?

So from what I've read, it's a pretty common condition, that does not necessarily need to be fixed to ensure proper operation of the tranny. I'm not going for any big HP numbers, no more than 350. The tranny has about 155k on it, I'm the second owner and I've never abused it, the first guy...

    1JZ swap: exhaust decision

dude check it out: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=8231. Inlet/Outlet Size: 2.25in./3.5in., Core Size: Dual 2in. Which I take as being necked down to 2" through the muffler.

    1JZ swap: exhaust decision

I did a little research on the magnaflow, which is essentially what the raptor racing exhaust is, just modified. The mufflers Raptor is using both have a 2.25" inlet. Even though they chop off the 2.25" inlet and weld on a 3" inlet, the muffler still necks down to 2 x 2.00" on the inside...

Why must I sometimes put R154 in 1st gear to get into reverse?

I am in the middle of a 1JZ swap and I have just finished cleaning up my R-154 from the 7MGTE. I have the front and rear main seals for the tranny that I am going to put in, but I want to make sure I complete all preventative maintenance I can to the tranny before it gets mated to the 1J. I...

    1JZ swap: exhaust decision

Ok so I think I've narrowed my choices down. Aside of aesthetics and cost, why would you choose one of these three exhaust sytems over the other? http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=663 http://store.driftmotion.com/static/i-tanabetouringmedallionformk3supra.php...

    Pulling the 7M-GTE

So I've been more or less following the thread to pull out the 7M. I attached the breaker bar to the crank pulley bolt and clicked the car over, but it won't bust loose. Is it completely necessary to remove the nut? I'm assuming that it needs to come off because of clearance issues with the...

    Pulling the 7M-GTE

Oh yeah wanted to show you guys the crane as well, its actually a 10 ton, and its capable of very minute and slow movements, the guys that work in my shop apparently take motors out of their mud track cars all the time with it.

    Pulling the 7M-GTE

Got the hood off (woohoo!!), and drained all the coolant from the radiator. I attempted to get the rear coolant purge bolt off, but that fucker will not budge and I have no room to get enough torque on it with the car on stands. I then tried to take the exhaust off to create more room to get...

    Pulling the 7M-GTE

Thanks for the tips Lewis, duly noted. I would assume that it would make sense to drain as many fluids as possible before disconnecting anything as well.

    Pulling the 7M-GTE

Much thanks, and you are right, I should have done a more thorough search, the only thing that is going to get me through this ordeal is my own persistence and thirst for knowledge. I do not know why it did not occur to me to look under the 7M-GTE section, freakin duh. I plan on taking lots...
