Exactly, which leads me to believe that I must have the wrong hardware. I'm using the DM's round motor mounts, with the stock 1JZ brackets that came on the motor, trying to bolt them up to the mounting face I have pictured on page 1, post #6. My car was manufactured July 89. So does that mean...
I bought the motor from Aaron at Driftmotion, he assured me the JDM motor is from a supra. The bellhousing is new, to be able to mount the motor to my R-154 from my US supra.
Yes that is one of the locations that I tried and the overall method I was using. I was under the car w/ the rear end jacked sky high, one guy operating the crane lowering and the other guiding and leveling when needed.
I am worried b/c I noticed drops of oil that appeared to be leaking at...
92TealSupra, I understand the location you've pointed out for the dampener and the two holes. I will check my motor right when I get home today, thanks a lot! I will also put some pics up on here of my motor with the valve covers off when I replaced the gaskets and put new plugs in. The motor...
It always seemed like we could get the driver's side mount stud to line up with the channel on the bracket, while the passenger was always 1" or so away. What does the dampener look like?

No, we have no...
The 7M had round mounts on it and the bracket in the chassis is in the first pic on my post above. You were able to get the mount back on the motor even with the motor in the car? That seems like it would be next to impossible.
Damn I have done all of those things. I am using an engine leveler as well. We basically go through a cycle like this: We insert the motor/trans assembly into the bay angled as far as the leveler will allow so the trans is pointed towards the floor. Then it is a cycle of leveling out on the...
I have on two different sessions attempted no less than 6 times to drop my completely stock 1JZ-GTE into a late 89 chassis. I even pounded a nice dent in the fire wall where the rear turbo will be sitting. I am using Driftmotion's aftermarket mounts and we can get the motor no closer than an...
Hey anyone!! I've prepped my car and 1J to drop in to my 89T. I've got the harness rewired and good to go. Everything is pretty much ready and I could really use some expertise and muscle to just help me get the motor in the car and everything hooked up. Any thing would help and there would...
Just assemble it one way and see if it acts as a spring when you press the whole assembly down. If it springs back, I guess that is the correct direction.
How do you change the differential oil and what type/weight should be used? I did not see any port on the body housing however I think I got most of the oil out just by having the rear up on jackstands. There has been a very slow oil leak from the main differential oil seal for years on my car...
I will try to find a small dremel disc and let you know how it goes. The JB weld didn't stand a chance as far as using it to weld a bolt head to the sheared surface. After 24 hrs. cure time it came off with very minimal torque. Can you recommend a good torque wrench or should I just turn of...
I got two off with the chisel method!
The third will not budge and I started to screw up the surface pretty badly so I stopped. I know this is ghetto, but what do you think the chances of using JB weld to put a bolt head onto the sheared bolt will work? I don't have access to a welder...
I've tried with a chisel that is probably too big, I'm headed to the store right now to get a small one. Only thing working against me is the red locktite I used on them all. :3d_frown:
I knew it prior to doing it but I still did anyway, impatience will always screw you when you are doing this type of work. I rented a torque wrench from Autozone, knowing full well that there is no way in hell it is calibrated and who knows what the hell it has been used for and how it has been...
Does anyone know/remember in which direction the cone spring that goes on the inside of the release bearing faces? When you are installing the spring and then the flat washer, does the cone spring go on the hub so that the cone would be upright or inverted? Page CL-14 of the TSRM...
