sounds like bad rings. either way its going to need a rebuild and you will do a hg. after rebuild it should pass smog. i wouldnt pay more than 600 for it.

it leans out at cruise and going up hills since the ecu thinks that its there and calculates the air/fuel ratio including the unburnt fuels from the egr. which will cause damage.

its not worth it on a stock usdm ecu. you can give yourself a bhg and your not going to gain a thing.

heater core bypass valve. when you turn on your heat it opens and lets hot coolant go threw the heater core. you can bypass the heater core for temp until you get a new one or look in the for sale section or junkyards.

the v160 wont bolt up to the 7m. just replace it with a r154.

there's good and bad you could end up buy a jdm engine that has rod knock or it could be perfect either way its better to rebuild a jdm motor anyways. so why spend a g on a used motor when you could easily rebuild yours for that or cheaper.
