Ok. Laugh at me all you want, but I want the classic turbo "Hiss" when I shift. My October 86' Mk3 is all stock, and I'm just looking for different ways to blow off to atmo and not kill the engine when I come to a stop, or run way too rich. I know you guys have to have done this before. How...
Just an update, the SS7231AX pads worked just fine. So if your autoparts store tells you they only offer the cheap line of brakes for your 86.5 to 88 model, tell them to give you the ones for an 89'. Mine are working great.
So I was looking at this thread and saw the "Only Brake Pads Listed For That Vehicle" portion of the story, and since I work for Napa, decided to look into the issue. My 87' came up with the same issue. The part number listed is a TS-7231. But if you bump up to an 89' or later there are...
Thanks for all the details guys. I'm new to the 7MGTE also, and have been looking to do this mod myself. Your insight really helps. If anyone is looking to sell off some parts to make this mod, I'd definitely be interested.
Ok. Here's an update. Looks like the waste gate actuator was in fact sticking a little bit. I spent an evening just moving the actuator arm around (in all directions) and felt it catching some. Whatever was sticking eventually smoothed out, and I'm hitting 7psi (on the stock boost gauge)...
It's not so bad actually. It's just one of those things that feels a little off. I've got nothing aftermarket on the car. No K&N or anything. It just seems like it doesn't hold the boost like it aught to (Boosting up to 6psi or so at 3200rpm, and then immediately bleeding down to 5psi by...
Sounds about right. It's just that the car is entirely original, and my intitial intention was to keep it a "Survivor". Looks like I may have to adjust that idea.
Im still wondering about some things. In normal operation, should I hear the famous "TISS!!" when I shift?
Should I maintain 6.25psi from 3100 to Redline? How much drop off should I see?
Is this what they call a "Recirculating System"?
Should I be able to operate my waste gate by hand...
I've visually inspected all the hoses I can, and found nothing that would produce the loud hiss that I hear while spooling. I'll be sure to check out the bypass valve tomorrow.
On my 87' 7mgte, I'm spooling right at 6psi (according to the stock gauge) at 3100 rpm, but then it begins to bleed off as RPM's increase. I'm hearing a loud hiss the whole time I spool, but since I'm not familiar with the Supra's, I don't know how much of that is normal.
I've grabbed my...
No Brake Lights, Fuse is good, and the stoplight switch is good? Take a look at the Lighting Module. Apparently they're notorious for burning out. Fear not, they can be rebuilt.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. The first link to instructions in this thread doesn't specify a year, and it took me a minute to realize that it wasn't correct for my 87'.
For an 87 or an 88 hit up this link

Yeah, I work for NAPA and just double checked the listing on it. Sounds like you got a clutch listed for the 7MGE rather than the 7MGTE. Anytime you buy parts make sure they know your car is the Turbo model. I just had to buy one myself.
As far as the One Piece Clutch? Um, I have to agree...
I'm getting ready to replace my Clutch Assembly, Clutch Master Cylinder, Clutch Slave Cylinder, and Rear Main Seal. Anyone know of anything I should look out for while I'm in there? Or maybe other parts you recommend replacing while it's torn apart?
So what are you guys wiring your fog lights to? I'm sure I could rig something up, but with as clean as your cars look, I'm guessing you did it in a very professional manner.
