Thanks for all the input. Going with a reman denso from pep boys for $58. I couldn't believe they had a denso IN STOCK!!!
I'll try to remember to take pics for a first timers guide to doing the starter.
Any updates? I had a coolant steam bath in the bay this morning and although I haven't had a chance to really look at it (at work now, tow scheduled for 5PM) I'm suspecting the Mishimoto since i have the old design, newish hoses, and most of what I could see was concentrated in the fan clutch...
Tried the relay trick already.
For anyone else, I'm not asking for advice on how to get it started/fix the current starter, just brand experience/opinions.
The only thing that gets it going (other than roll starting it) is whacking the starter with a wrench. Typically indicates the solenoid.
It's my only car so I'd rather spend a little more money and a lot less time just swapping it rather than trying to rebuild it.
Any opinions on Duralast/Bosche/NAPA reman starters?
Long story short my Toyota reman starter is going out after only 4 years. :1zhelp:
(and yes I know for sure it's the starter and not CPS wiring, relays...)
Since the Toyota one dropped dead so quickly I figured an aftermarket can't be...
Mine's already spent on paying back the card I just used:
Speedo cable : not a day too soon as it just started squeaking ALL THE TIME. VERY ANNOYING.
Coil pack harness : every wire was full of green
Radio : old cheap kenwood started dieing, replaced with a JVC my dad had, JVC started eating...
<--- Daily driver 87 Turbo for over 6 years/100k. So far I've only had to bum rides 3 times. 2 for head gaskets (one when I got it done by Toyota and one 4 months ago done by me) and once for the radiator.
Definitely not the most reliable daily and there are times when I would seriously like...
Sounds like 'Jane' knows someone at the police department.
Get the police report and talk to 'Mary's insurance company. Typically the insurance companies will hash it out. If Mary's insurance won't back her then seek legal counsel.
Front seats are just 4 bolts at the bottom. Drivers side has the plug for the seat motors.
If it's in a bad spot a good flexible ratcheting wrench might make it easier:
The rears are a bit more of a pain.
This or the the 100 amp fusible link in the fuse box.
And I agree with JJ. -35C makes you my hero for even leaving the house. Since I've been in FL I won't get out if it's at or below 0C.
Arkansas, ok. Brazil, meh.
Now Sweden is reporting dead birds. WTF?????
Don't have a link but someone get one please. I'm on my phone and saw it on a nonfox news channel.

Personally I don't see it being any more difficult than a 2jzge or gte.
2jz is the block code. Different pistons, sensors, oil pans... but same basic block.
I'm not familiar with the fse head but it's probably close to the fe twin cam design and you may be able to upgrade to a ge head later...
Mkiii = my car (duh)
222 = my initials on a phone (my pager code so my friends knew it was me back in the day before we got cell phones)
I also go by guysmiley222 on xbox, sf, and other places. Guy Smiley was the game show host on Sesame St. I was always smiling back in the day when I was a...
Different types of alcohol have different effects on the brain.
I've found I'm pretty mellow on rum/whisky, sentimental and sometimes giddy on vodkas, tequila makes want to party...
The greasy food thing works best right when you leave the bar. That's why Waffle House fills up at 2am...
