    I vote machine down the front cover. If I'm not mistaken the cover can be slightly lower than the deck, but not vise versa, of course.

    Maybe the pump's bearings are bad. You can try replacing the pump with the one from the 7MGE to verify the source. ps- oops- thought you were saying you just did the swap. my bad.

    Had a scare today- pcv system was the culprit.

    Well, maybe that is part of the problem, and I have to put a check valve in line with the hose going up to- but before, the throttle body junction.

    I've heard of oil drives shearing, and their gears breaking. Maybe something there?

    Upgrading my 7MGTE!

    Yup- You can hit 300 with the aforementioned mods. And I think that intake and exhaust shoul'd be done first. They help every other upgrade, and give the biggest initial boost to power.

    Did you remove any IC hoses to get to the air filter- or loosen the intake accordian at all?
