Old gas will do it.
Too much timing
Too much compression
Too much boost
Too much carbon
(well the last one would really be preignition not really detonation)
I think Shaeff's post is in the FAQ's
It "hears" knock/detonation and will retard the timing to prevent engine damage.
A lot of the time the wiring is faulty on our cars, Shaeff posted an easy to follow repair guide for this.

Open or Torsen turn opposite
LSD should turn the same direction as the Clutch packs "limit" the slip from wheel to wheel.
When the Clutch packs are gone it will go open.
K just try turning the Diff Input flange by hand without the DS in place, Wheels off the ground E Brake off.
I've had a badly damaged Diff in the past that would only turn forwards but would lock up when you tried to turn it backwards.
This is just a hunch and if I'm correct it's cheaper...
