I sort of figure even if I were paying $100 for fluid it's such a small component of the car costs it's not worth cheaping out on as 1 good brake fade at the wrong time could end your life or total the car... I've turned all 4 discs blue on my car and never had fade so it's well worth it!

Depends what sort of machine they have some are dedicated and mount the head with the surface down and move the head over a cutter and some are like my CNC where the head is clamped down to the table and moved under a cutter!

As far as I know no I'm sure one of the ECU guru's will know for sure. I guess if the CPS is near a firing point it could. Most cars will have a few seconds as a priming pulse but I believe Mk3's don't (but I could be wrong)

Flushed and clean dot3 will be fine! Your current fluid is probably 1/4 water by now depending on how long it's been in there!

The pump doesn't actually run untill the ECU see's the motor crank and fire a plug.

Ummmm errrrr ahhhh ya might want to keep the 3 and buy some more then as you might get an empty 5.1 bottle for $10 ;)

The 5.1 gives a bit better service life, you can get better racing fluid but it needs to be changed more often and costs more. I haven't boiled the 5.1 no matter how hard I work the brakes so it's a good compromise, track days on slicks may be another matter though.
