How many miles have you put on it? I put on a used turbo and I filled the drain line with oil and let it sit upside down (had no idea how long oil hadn't been in it), oil came out the exhaust side and I did get the exact same symptoms as you, but it did go away...

Motors are good at stop and go, but have terrible efficency at higher speeds (like highway driving). Motors are cheap to make, and haven't changed much since they where invented. batteries on the other hand are expensive to make, not counting the environmental impact of most of them.
