Jack up that corner of the car and put it on a jackstand. Grab the wheel and shake the snot out of it, see if you get any play. If you do, get someone else to shake it while you track down what the worn part is. If it's clanking, chances are it will be pretty easy to find.

Mine were toast as well. I salvaged the broken clips and used a hot glue gun to repair them, it's held up rather well.
