    BHG/ idle cool/ high speed over heat

    Tell the mechanic that you *absolutely require* that he torque the headbolts to 72 foot pounds, and damn the specs in the manual. Sorry to hear about being single, that shit is always hard to deal with.

    Caravan to PacNW:::Friday Morning

    Another bit that would be helpful... any local police cruisers other than the usual 4 door fare to watch out for? Looks like we are definitely heading down Thursday after work.

    Supramania.com stickers now available

    Right folks, I have stickers, envelopes, and shipping costs, so we're ready to go. Here's a picture of a white one on my car for reference: They come in your choice of Black or Silver, White is currently out of stock. Total cost depends on where you live - or more correctly, where I have to...

    Show me those rims

    So, where are the rims from the original poster? Tease!

    I;ve got a few questions.

    Nope! He's runing an NA engine, so he never sees boost. Means that any leaks will allow extra air into the engine, not spew extra air out.

    Heat in the cabin

    Switch the climate control to recycle air, the draft will stop.

    Caravan to PacNW:::Friday Morning

    I think the plan for the Canadian guys is to leave Thursday evening so we can be in Portland by late that night, catch some ZZZZzzs in a hotel and be there for the start of the dyno event. However... if we back up 10am to Seattle as 3.5 hours, that makes 6:30am... back up Seattle to Vancouver...

    I;ve got a few questions.

    #2 sounds like a vacuum leak. Check for rubber hoses that are brittle or cracked in the engine bay and replace them. Sounds like D34DC311 already has you covered for the rest.

    Heat in the cabin

    Well, check the heater valve. It's on the firewall near the windsheild wiper motor. Turn your heat from full on to full off, check to see if the little arm moves up and down. Keep in mind that there should be hot coolant flowing through your heater core unless you have the climate control...

    Well said.

    PVC IC piping

    I predict that the price of the Mk4 will drop to well under 10K within six months of the Mk5 being available in halfway decent numbers in the USA. This is NOT a car you want to buy as an investment any time soon.

    Which Gasket Set?

    The only gasket that I really worry about is the head gasket. Other than that, your average cheap gaskets seem to work great. I'd buy the cheaper set in your position.

    PVC IC piping

    You know, I'd agree with Ideal - except that our stock pipes are plastic. Personally, I used steel conduit piping - but it's essentially the same idea. It might be a little tougher in the long run, I doubt I'll have it for long enough to know though.

    odd q's, AFM, Gauges

    Oil pressure sensor is on the front of the block, underneath the CPS - almost beside the power steering pump. Water temp sensor is on the thermostat housing above this.

    How hard to change dash????

    He's talking about the dash, not the instrument cluster. :) It's an average PITA to replace. You should be able to repair the glovebox mount with a short length of pipe and some glue or fiberglass easier. Unless there are cracks in the dash and it needs to be replaced anyhow.

    Official SF thread

    If you add up the number of people over there consistently browsing the Mk3 sections and compare it to the number of people here, you're in for an interesting revelation. Also... if you need information, and it's not here - ask. The search Nazis are much more forgiving here.

    FINALLY, a real H4 BI-XENON kit.

    I have seen the actuators - some are small, some are not. For everyone who thinks that SilverStars are even close to equivalent to HIDs - NO. HIDs kick the piss out of any halogen based bulb you can buy. Silverstars are a nice upgrade over stock, but they aren't even in the same league as...

    How hard to drop the tranny without pulling the engine?

    Takes two people about 6 hours to pull and replace the tranny. It's not very technical - some of the bolts are hard to get at, but it's pretty obvious what needs to be done. For the hard bolts, you'd better have scrawny arms - and even then, you better grease them up goos before you try to...
