Agreed. There are at least three that I can think of... - The heater control VSV, that controls whether you have hot coolant circulating through your heater core in the cabin. - The EGR VSV, which controls the EGR system. - The Fuel Pressure VSV, which controls your fuel pressure regulator...

Vacuum Solenoid Valve, there are several, and they can be removed if you don't mind losing the functionality that they control.

No, I bet something just snapped and is jamming the entire assembly together. I did that in one of my Mk2s, snapped a spring on the disc, then the pieces of the spring fell and jammed the whole thing together. Pulling it apart afterwards was easy. Just unbolted the pressure plate and the...

Nah, there is this ongoing battle between a couple of the guys here, where they edit each other's profiles (they are both mods, of course) in the most embarrasing way they can. They pull all sorts of pranks on each other, some of 'em are damn funny.

Sounds like a dead clutch - something has broken and siezed the thing together. In any case, you are right on the money with your plans - you need to drop the tranny to figure out what is ailing the system.
