Yeah, they have those little vents, but not like a normal battery. I've had batteries swell and leak from age, had em leak around the terminals (in my supra...I was pissed). For a while there Wal-Mart carried knock-off Optimas as well (think they might have been sued)

PP is the second wear item, and it's not just from the friction, the diaphram wears. I'd at least get a new stock PP... Get the flywheel machined, not turned on a lathe. need to have it machined to look lik this (also note the backstep is machined as well, it wasn't machined when a shop did...

Well, technicly it IS a wet cell (it's just gel though), but it won't leak even if it's upside down, and the cases are made better...

New battery, and check the wiring...
