Hate to say it, but that sounds EXACTLY like what rod knock does. Try the bit with pulling the plug wires... pull one, see if it still sounds the same... try the next one, and so on. If any of the wires make the sound go away, it's knock for sure.

First up, you'll need some basic maintenance, or you'll be sorry. Fluids, hoses, seals - check as many as you can. After that is done, new intake, 3 inch exhaust from the back of the turbo all the way out, and then buy a boost controller and crank it up until just before you hit fuel cut.

Tuning it is rather easy, but you need access to a dyno or a wideband, or something similar. Power made is very similar... so much so that I'd say they are the same.

Hmm... might be a problem, the stock GTE ECU has built in timing adjustments. However, we cannot adjust the ECU timing amounts, and we push WAY over that level of power through the stock ECU, so I think you should be safe enough. You're running the GTE block and pistons, so you have the lower...

I have 'em. Pretty nice, though I'd be a bit happier if the drop on the front were a bit more, they look a little unbalanced - great for drag racing, tho.

Unless your rad cap is gone, your pretty much safe unless you are pushing liquid out the overflow.

500 rwhp isn't going to happen on an upgraded CT anyhow. You're looking at a full turbo kit, like the SP-6x series, and at least $2-3000.

Are you losing coolant out of the overflow? Have you run a block test to check for exhaust gasses in the coolant?

Depends on the area though - Cali is tough on emmissions, so levels that will pass in WA won't necessarily make it there.
