Rear Strut 'bearing' How can you test?

Go to Champion Toyota, they have everything, plus they give us good deals for being part of the supra community. Just let them know you’re from supramania or supraforums and they will give you the sale price on parts...

Rear Strut 'bearing' How can you test?

There is no bearing in there. And not that it's a really big deal or anything but we have shocks on our cars not struts. ;) If you had a 'clunk' that usually just means the mounting nut was loose.

    BHG. But why?

You should go by what the sheet that comes with your hardware states you should torque the studs/bolts down to. 81ft/lbs is fine for now but ARP may change their metal and their torque specs in the future, so make sure you read the sheet it comes with. Now a little more information to chew on...

    I`m getting called out.

With dry shots you are probably correct, but wet shots are a whole different ball game. Quit antagonizing the Camaro driver. Like IJ said, he probably has 100hp, two more cylinders and a crap load more torque than you do to haul that piece of Detroit iron down the road. Just because he drives...

My car being used in the New Need For Speed Game

I guess I just didn't understand what you meant in your previous statement. The MKIII isn't going to get any recognition from this at all except in our tiny little community. On the game it is going to look like a MKIV and sound like an MKIV. The only reason they are using Nicks MKIII is because...

Is the 7mgte an interference motor

While Toyota did a pretty good job of not designing very many interference engines, they do have a few black sheep’s in their happy family. 3E 1988-1994 1MZ-FE 1998-2004 3MZ-FE 2004 2UZ-FE 1998-2004 5VZ-FE 1995-2002 These are the only interference engines, I'm aware of, that Toyota...

Is the 7mgte an interference motor

On an interference motor the valves occupy the same space as the piston, at different times obviously. When the piston is down the valves are open, when the piston is up, the valves are closed. This balancing at is kept in check by the timing belt. If the timing belt slips or breaks with the...

Is the 7mgte an interference motor

You heard correct, the 7M motor is a non-interference engine. (TONY! the ninja was here, saw him and then he vanished! :-p)

    coolant smells like gas

I'd prefer it slow cooked over medium horsepower, please.

    BHG. But why?

OK I’m not totally insane, I went and checked ARPs website for torque specs and their general torque spec for the 190,000/200,000psi tensile strength 12mm stud is 86 ft/lbs w/moly, 109ft/lbs w/30 wt. That is general torque spec maybe supra specific is a little different, or maybe they...

    BHG. But why?

Very good work Jdub, I was hoping someone would scan the damn sheet. I was going from memory, and for some reason 86 and 106 are what I remember but then again my memory sux.

    coolant smells like gas

The only way for fuel to get into the coolant is through a Blown Head Gasket (BHG)

    BHG. But why?

Very good point IJ, this fact is further enforced if the aluminum in our head goes soft. Then the washers on the head bolts can really dig in, thus reducing the clamping force.

    BHG. But why?

I hate to disagree with you shaeff because usually you are spot on. And it is true that many people run with 75 ft/lbs with out a problem. However I would like to point out some things. 1. The 75 ft/lbs recommendation was made for Toyota hardware. 2. ARP recommends 86ft/lbs for a reason, to...

    BHG. But why?

If you could clarify what you used as lube, that would help. moly or engine oil? The reason I ask is because ARP recommends 86 ft/lbs with moly lube, however that number goes up to a 106 ft/lbs recommendation if your using 30 wt. engine oil.

    A positive-boost turbo system???

Actually they have catalytic converters that deal very well with the high NOx levels produced, the problem is high sulfur levels destroy them. Japan uses low sulfur gasoline so the catalytic converters work well over there. But here in the states, only California uses low suffer fuels. However...
