I love the valve covers! I've been wanting to do that from some time. I'll probably hit you up for some tips and what tools you used and such... ;)
As far as the head goes....I've seen better. I haven't inspected it yet; but, I might have a spare head in better shape. It was an extra...
Well, no pics. Sorry... :( I called and they said that it was scheduled to arrive NEXT Thursday. I misunderstood. When they said Thursday, I assumed they meant this passed one. :nono:
I just re-read my post Dave and I didn't meant it to sound like it did. When I said that "Dave, this is for you!", I was excited because disconnecting the brown wire cleared 24 for me and was thinking that it might do the same for you!
Those are the plugs I'm running. The NGK 2330's. They...
You'll want to review this:

I would also like to add that your fuel pump is 20+ years old. It's not wise to push it too hard. ;)
Ok. Dave, this is for you!
My 24 code, and so far my 34 code also, was corrected by disconnecting the brown wire of the maft. I had it connected to the 'THA' line.
I give all the credit to TurboBob on Fullthrottletech.com.
Here's the link...
I've never run the lexus afm. Only the stock afm.
My maft settings are setup according to the setup guide. I'm still running v4.4.
I'll attach my .adl if you feel up to reviewing it. Note the oscillation of the afr data stream while at constant speed. Does that look similar to yours...
I switched out the afm and the code 34 is gone. At least for my short run up and down my street...
Code 24 is still there and if it's messing with timing, that could be the cause of what I'm feeling while driving.
Is there a way around this besides installing a lexus afm and/or converting...
Don't hold me to this because I'm not using a Lex AFM; but, I think I remember reading that the screw should be in the fully open position. Someone may correct me on that one...
Good luck and let us know what you find.
Also, code 34 refers to more than one thing.
Turbocharger
AFM
Intercooler System
ECU
Are you sure your lexus afm is good? Have you cleared the codes and hooked the stock one back up to see of 34 clears?
Intercooler system would be a boost leak.
Those are the easy ones...
I wasn't doubting that you had a lex afm, I was poking fun at you for calling it a maf. :)
I had a boost leak and I didn't run rich. My boost leak was because a little plug on top of the trottle body blew out. It boosted and pulled great until around 11 psi.
And don't forget...we're all...
Ok. Today the problem persists with the second coil pack. It even got worse. It got bad enough that the cel flashed a couple of times so I was hoping to find some trouble codes when I got home and I DID!!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!
Now I have a direction to go. I got codes 24 and 34.
I'll be...
I hear ya. I am going to switch to speed density in the near future. I was hesitant to do that until I tracked this problem down. I didn't want to risk compounding problems.
As you described with your AFM situation, someone else suggested that I just go ahead and convert to Speed Density...
Install the egr system off the engine you removed. If that doesn't apply, then search the 'For Sale' sections or post a 'Want to buy' thread in the proper section.
It was something that just developed and now that I've recently installed 550's and a Maft Pro, it's more evident. More evident because of more power of course.
I soldered each clip on and shrink wrapped the solder joints. I do this type of stuff for a living so I don't question my work...
