I have done it and I agree. Pulling just the transmission is easier. Pulling just the engine is NOT! If you have to pull the engine just pull them both. If all you need to work on is the tranny, only drop the tranny.

Smoking the clutch like that you better be ready to resurface or replace the flywheel. Should be done anyway with a new clutch.

I had the same problem as you Joe. What had happened was somehow, over time the process priority of folding at home had gone up. Therefore it's cpu cycles were taking priority over others causing a noticeable slowdown. A reinstall didn't cure this for me, but I never really looked into it. I...
