Do you have a wideband?
I ran into something similar except mine only did it when the car was hot. Example...I drive to the store, go in and get BBQ Sauce, Q-Tips, and Road Flares....come out and start the car and it would sputter for 3-5 seconds then clear up.
Sometime later, I did a...
I don't think you can go wrong with the Maft Pro. In AFC mode you can fuel tune and data log. VERY COOL AND VERY FUN!!
Then as funds, time, and energy allow....buy the AIT Sensor, MAP Sensor, and Speed Density Harness, and then you're about as close to a Standalone as you can get.
AFC = All For Cash ;)
The Maft Pro is a great starter unit (AFC Mode); but, then you can expand it to SD. Like stated ^up there, it's the most bang for your buck. There are a lot of other units out there; but, hardly any can be upgraded like the Maft.
AFC = Air Fuel Computer
You can run the Maft Pro in AFC Mode. This will allow you to keep everything stock and in a basic sense, still tune the car. I ran it this way for around 4 months while I was waiting on my IC Pipe to get welded up. It really made the car peppy. At 11 psi, I was able to beat a semi-built DSM...
Definitely start with pulling codes.
Did you check for leaks with a Coolant Pressure Tester? If you have a plastic cap rad and it is old, that could be the culprit.
The weak link in those regulators is the diaphram inside and it doesn't come with Stainless Lines or the proper fitting for the fuel rail. Hopefully, your diaphram will hold up. Definitely, upgrade that when you upgrade to a bigger pump.
Did my pic help at all? I'm sure if you search...
grim, you're an animal! Always pressing forward. I wish I had the time to do that!
A friend of mine is in to the Fox Body Stangs and one of their first mods is to convert away from the factory Speed Density and go to MAF.
Got it. Thanks!
Ya know what we should have done before it got cold was fired up the BBQ at your place and had like 4 or 5 of us under your hood and pounded this thing out!
Mine's about to go down also. Below is what's coming.
Tranny Rebuild (all Marlin Crawler Stuff)
New Clutch
New...
The AFM supplies part of the equation that the ECU needs to make proper calculations to fuel mixture.
If you remove that part of the calculation the vehicle will not run correctly. To test this, just go out and unplug the connector from the AFM and start the car.
I'm not running a...
You can't just delete it. Cars without them have been converted to Speed Density.
EDIT: I am not familiar with the mod the above post is referring to; but, the Maft Pro system has a Speed Density Harness. Once in Speed Density, there is no need for the AFM.
Here's a pic of my setup. It doesn't show the lower lines; but, you can see where the regulator is mounted and where the steel braided line runs. It's right behind the alternator.
Hopefully, someone else will post a pic of the lower setup.
