Stock HU replacement with a Toyota Stock Head Unit Radio

This makes sense, because Toyota radios are standard DIN mount (or, in the case of the Supra, double-DIN mount.) This is a standard size, which is the reason that aftermarket radios mount in so easily. As such, it's no surprise that other Toyota radios, which are also standard DIN/double DIN...

    Wire harness splice

Actually, in many instances in a car environment, crimp connectors are superior. There is a reason why the OEM wire harness aren't soldered, but are always crimped. At any kind of fixed location where vibration is a factor (ie, most conectors in a car) a crimped connector is better, because...

Help me choose an engine for my 87 Supra

In all seriousness... If you're considering a 1JZ swap, look into it and decide if you want to go that route. I think that I could afford to fix my motor a few times before making a JZ swap cost effective, but that's me. I have these wonderful little screw extractors. They go in a drill...

    Where to buy intercooler couplers?

+1 My only complaint was that they only carry them in blue.

    Backwards battery

People with nothing better to do than chuck eggs at cars/houses need to be GIVEN something better to do... Like cleaning the highways in a bright orange jumper. Wiring in the battery backwards is not a good thing, there are a lot of circuits in the car that won't take reversed voltage very...

    ECU, Deceleration, and You!

I'm curious as to why you'd expect backfires. If there's no fuel, there's nothing to backfire. The engine still takes in fuel as normal, because it's still turning, The difference is that at the top of the compression stroke, there's nothing to combust. The fuel injector didn't open for that...

    how to adjust a/f ratio?

Wait wait... When you say "halfway to" does that mean that the number is LOWER THAN 14.7? Lower numbers= richer mixtures. The ECU will tend to run rich at WOT and at idle. In these conditions, the meter doesn't really count. Cruising, part throttle, constant RPM, the TCCS should be...

engine swap from 89' to 91' HELP!

The early '89 harness will be grey anyhow. Mine was, and connected up perfectly to an '87T ECU harness, with minor exceptions. I'll bet though, that the '89T motor mounts were square, not round like the '91 mounts are. If you had an early model '89 (And the motor mounts are the biggest...

    Charcoal Canister?

This is one of those "mods" that just make zero sense to me. The only justification that I can see for it is appearance, in which case, there are plenty of places that the cannister can be hidden. I did not and will not remove mine, though I do plan to move it. 1. Its purpose is to store...

    ECU, Deceleration, and You!

Okay. I was under the impression that fuel cut also killed ignition (Couldn't that be bad if the ignition lights a lean mixture?) I had a problem with my TPS once, where the IDL and E2 were shorted all the time. It was a real pain, 'cause I had to get it home without taking it above ~2000...

    Exhaust size?

Funny, the only time people talk about losing some of the RPM range with an exhaust upgrade, it's usually the BOTTOM end that they lose. Any more free-flowing exhaust should be better in the high RPM ranges, where the system is pushing the most exhaust gasses through the piping.

    7m-gte ECU harness

The early '89 had the grey plugs too, but would connect to the yellow connectors. I pulled an '89 ECU harness (grey plugs) and dropped in an '87T harness, and everything just clipped up. My car's production date is 10/88 and it's an early '89 with the square motor mounts. Edit: The ABS...

    ECU, Deceleration, and You!

As soon as the throttle closes (IDL and E2 are connected at the throttle position sensor) the ECU shuts off the engine, same as fuel cut, provided that the RPM is above about 2200. Once the RPM drops below 1200 or so, fuel and spark are returned, so that the engine doesn't stall. This is...

    Exhaust size?

LOL! That's funny. My reason is #1. Being cheap. The cats I had are NFG, and a decent replacement was more $$$ than I wanted to spend. I might have done it anyway had I not been able to get the downpipe that I have that eliminates both cats.

    87 turbo LSD in a 90 na?

Bolts right up. I did this in my '89NA, before I got the rest of the goodies to complete my turbo swap. Your speedo will be 10% out. If your odometer says you've gon 100 miles, you've gone 110. If it says you're doing 60mph, you're doing 66. (4.300/3.909 = 1.1)

abolute most reliable upgrade parts for 350hp DD/weekend dragracing supra

Fuel Pump: Walbro, or Mk4 TT stocker. Injectors: RC Engineering are popular, and have an excellent reputation. I have PTE injectors myself, and am very happy with them. Turbocharger: Not sure personally. I managed to score an older Turbonetics unit, but I don't know what the "money no...

    Toyota Axle Codes

Since I see the occasional thread about installing a 6 speed in the A70 chassis, I found the following information that I had stored away. The bolded ratios are the ones that already come in an A70 chassis, however, it shoud be possible to use 8" differentials from other models, some of which...

abolute most reliable upgrade parts for 350hp DD/weekend dragracing supra

"money no object" -- but assuming that you're staying 7M. A 2JZ-GTE can put down 350rwhp in nearly stock trim, which will be close to stock reliability. Similarly Toyota's 5L V12 would probably do that in bone stock trim. Get a better turbo than stock. There are aftermarket water cooled...

    wheels or a Turbo Kit

Meh. The sidewall will be 7.5mm thicker, it'll throw out the speedometer/odometer a little (if they're on the back, which I assume they will be.)

    turbo sensor plug

If that were the case, then wouldn't the ECU wiring harness have the plug for the sensor, which it does not. Now there is, of course the chassis wiring harness that connects to the ECU for things like the instrument panel, but is the turbo pressure sensor on that link?
