We can give the ground crank a salt bath after grinding. Bring the surface (.013) up to 40 or 50 rockwell. Beyond that, .013 to .030 it should get to 25 - 30 rockwell.

Call me Tuesday, we can weigh the options. Gary's stock crank has held 3 years with heavy rods, spinning 9k+ rpm, with stock main caps. Now we added the billet main caps and the girdle to his bottom end. Your aluminum rods would be much easier on the crank.
