Changing the diff is an EASY, EASY task. Should only cost ~250 at most for a used one. ~900 for a brand new one to thrash on. w58 should be fine up to ~300RWHP, if you want more than that you should start with a turbo car and save yourself the trouble.

Sounds like a beat to hell motor. Plan on full rebuild. If you can afford to buy a head and do a full rebuild then go for it. But realize that you may have to spend ~2500 to get it running if there aren't any other surprises.
