Kudos to you for pursuing it. It's not easy, but the result will be well worth your effort, I'm sure.
May you succeed, save some lives and god-dammit make some $$ along the way. :)
I'd be surprised if you didn't warp the head.
If the head is still good, you may get away with your budget. If the head needs any work you don't stand a chance.
Forget about mhg. That's not even close to an option at that budget.
Stuck to basics and you might get away with the rebuild.

No, I like the detail. Don't get us wrong, we aren't bashing you. The story just sounds odd.
I think I missed a part of the story because I thought you bought the house and then found the old owner.
Either way, its an interesting and unique situation to find such a clean mk3 and therefore will...
This was my thought as well. When a home is sold, I believed all items within the house went with it to the new owner...

Why not swap your plugged light for one with no plug?
When I was shopping Lowes and home depot for my garage lighting, the non plug ones were bigger and more economical anyways...

Dan: Sorry man, but you're just plain... wrong. lol. I understand your dislike for blue. That's good, you're not giving in to the hype. But there are plenty of good, sunlight color HID's (4000-5000K) which yield 3X the usable...
No copper board needed! I ended up using shaved down proto boards. It's all installed and perfectly functional. I'll post up more pics and a write up soon.

Interesting, I never knew that. I think it'd hilarious to wire both turn signals into the horn on an unsuspecting friends car. Every blink of the turn signal... HONK HONK HONK!
Of Course, I'd never actually mess with a friends wiring, but the idea makes me laugh out loud.
I spent a TON of time on my first car making the black paint look really good and started with paint way worse than yours. Of course, I was 16 and had TONS of free time. My paint is starting to do what yours is and I'm just polishing it when I get a chance, section by section, and holding out...
Huh? Is everything unbolted? all 14 head bolts? You can pry lightly in a few places without putting a tool on the seam of the head and block. Just pop it loose. I've never heard of a 7M head being that stuck.
Possibly. Boulder is right on the mountain edge though and it seems we get gusts that aren't accompanied by inclimate weather.
I'm really torn cuz the 250 seems great, but I reapply don't want to get blown off the road doing 55...
I might have to stick to the Gs500.

Billet for sure. If you are redding the whole system I think it's dumb not to make it as reliable as possible. After all, ten of those billet thermostats will cost less than a full engine rebuild if the cast part fails during a pull and leaves you with no oil to a running motor.

My hesitation on the 250 is that I would like to do a fair amount of country side highway driving at 60 and I've heard the ninjas can be a little iffy on long highways trips. it's super light at 300lbs and I keep hearing a hefty wind can be trouble at highway speeds.
Most of my driving is to...
Many hours of measuring to 0.01", cad drafting, manufacturing with 3 trial substrates, using a dremel drill press as a mill on material 2mm thick, creating 1mm channels for wire, soldering 3.2x1.6mm LEDs with a POS soldering iron, disassembling and reassembling all the gauges more times than I...
Yeah, agreed. The first one will be cheap for sure. I know I will likely break something on it and I hope within 6-12 months ill be upgrading to something a little more sporty.
It'll be a challenge to avoid dropping it. I'm surprised how many seem to say that is inevitable. I'll heed warnings...
