It does have to be heated...to melt the glue, to make it possible to remove the lens...

I've heard of people heating their tails up in the oven to get the lens out of them...I would imagine you'd have to be careful not to melt or warp the lens though...

Duh! It's your power steering pump screaming, because it is starved of fluid...put some ATF fluid (read: not power steering fluid, only ATF) and see what happens... Find out where it is leaking from...it is likely coming from on the boots on the rack, or a hose coming from the reservoir.
