I'm glad you went that route instead of just replacing the bearings...I think you'll be much happier in the end when you don't have rod knock again. ;)
And for the oil pump, just check the clearances of the GTE one (not sure is GE pump is any different)...you should be okay...I have heard that...
What do you mean by "cuts off"? Do you mean the engine stops running? As in it stalls? If so, it only does it when the car goes into first gear? Or when you come to a stop?

I just took the studs off (they slide out) no big deal really. And as far as the mouldings, I just used a blow-dryer to heat my pre-89 moulding, and peel it off...then I double-stick taped it to the 89+ moulding.

Ummm...I don't know of anyone who has sleeved a 7M, and I don't know why one would want to either. Most people bore out the 7M to straighten things out, not necessarily to make more power...and I don't see how boring out the cylinder a little bit would make the car "unreliable"...
