Obviously one or both cams are out of whack. It's the only explanation. So check your base timing. Oh, do I know how you feel...it sucks! But you're a smart guy you probably just goofed the base timing when installing the timing belt (in a rush to boost).
Don't beat yourself up...it...
Have you looked around where the head seals against the block?... especially at the back of the engine...I think I'd try to eliminate that possibility first. Because if you're leaking there, its teardown time, no need to go any further.
Just a thought.
MSD OR ACCELL makes piggyback programmable ignitions. You don't even diconnect your original coil it just plugs into the amplifier and it sends a hotter spark and adjusts for detonation. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet somebody out there has. It seems to me it would work well with an NA<T...
The last time I blew a head gasket it blew externally and was shooting oil all over the down pipe via the back of the trans as it was leaking from the back of the head through the head gasket. They tell me it's kinda rare but not totally uncommon. I had no internal leaks just that oil squirting...
Hey you guys...doesn't anyone build thier own catback?
I have a 3 & 1/2 " stainless mandral bent (myself) from a high flow cat (summitt) through a flowmaster (that's right a flowmaster).
It was cheap to build, has minimal bends, very little backpressure, and sounds bitchen (forgive me...
Good advice if this guy is for real...I too have my doubts. Doesn't sound like he has the makings of a Supra owner...maybe he should start off with a honda or a nissan sentra and work his way up.
Hey, I got an idea, read the F'n TSRM like everybody else....this is simple shit and this inglknock dude is just being lazy, sorry for sounding impatient but c'mon "what's the black thingie behind the ABS?"...jesus there's a limit.
:nono:
Somebody back me up here, please:
Yes, it did sound like a tamoborene!
Man do I feel stupid! Just wanted to publicly admit my ineptness.
I had my cam covers off checking for something rattleing around. I had so much stuff disassembled you'd have thought I was doing a teardown.
Turns out it was a loose bracket on my...
Maybe if I'm more descriptive:
It sounds like somebody rattling a small chain or like the sound of one of those chimes on a kids bike, you know kind of a ching ching or like if you dropped a small chain. It's kind of like something was loose and it seems to be internal but hard to tell...
That's the sound that's coming from my motor. I can hear it as I rev up off idle. I know it's not good. But I can't figure what it is. Sounds like some one jingleing chains together. Doesn't seem to be affecting the way the motor runs but it's got to be something. Any ideas? :1zhelp:
Right. You just have to be patient and a little nimble. I've taken mine off and put it on with the head still on the block in the car. just start off with a cold motor, that thing gets hot.
When I originally did my na/t conversion I used ge electronics (but soon switched to gte electronics) and had no problems but I ran 440 injectors.
I don't know that the 315's won't work but...just about the worse thing you can do to a motor is starve it for fuel under boost.
If you decide...
I had a car (not a supra) with similar symptoms. It ran well at above idle engine speeds but had a stumble at idle once warmed up. Like you, I tried vaccuum hose replacement and all manner of tune-up techniques and parts. I also block tested it for exhaust gasses in the radiator and passed...
Good (sigh of relief), because I'd hate to spend that kinda money and find out...I don't know what...something bad.
I can see the "off road use only" warning on smog related stuff but it seems kinda odd on coilover shocks.
Does anyone have a recommendation on which Tein model is best...
