You have to pull out the climate controll and change out all the leds. Lots of guys do it. I've fixed the original leds on mine (by fixed I mean resoldered the connections to the circuit board. As far as pre 89, I dunno cause I replaced my climate control with a later model control box

Does anybody out there know if "lazy" seat belt retractors can be fixed? My seatbelts don't want to retract on their own and you have to kinda feed them back into the retractor thingy. I don't want racing harnesses so I have to find a way to fix the spring loaded retractors or buy new ones...

I think your mechanics first instinct was correct. Fuel pump. And yes, a fuel pump will sometimes work intermittently (although not well) when it's on it's way out. Get an inline fuel pressure gauge and check the line pressure, I bet that's the culprit.
