    hot engine sputters when started

I will add this bit. It is easier to pull the alternator than the manifold, if you can't see what you are doing.

    hot engine sputters when started

And the fuel pump is...25 years old? It might be a little tired.

Best way to purge air out of cooling system? thanks

http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/SFF2A/SPILL-FREE-FUNNEL-WITH-GM-ADAPTER/ On flat ground when the engine is cold. The radiator cap is the high spot already. Follow the manual. There should never be an air pocket. When you start it, it will burp. Even when you pour it in slow. Make...

    knock sensor question

I didn't know that about Florida. But I haven't lived there. For the OP, maybe you should read a general lesson on turbocharger theory. You don't even have to go into heavy tech. Just the basics. It works from the spent heat energy. More load, more heat. Less load, less heat, less boost. So...

WTO Membership Could Open Floodgate Of Russian Guns & Ammo

Which post? I didn't say anything about a Russian AK47. They haven't been made in a long time. AKM is "modified". That is fine by me, as long as it isn't cheap Chinese fodder.

Timing Setups with stock cams and pump gas

Do you know the general rule of thumb? Advancing the intake to open sooner or retarding the exhaust to open later both increases overlap, and shifts the torque peak higher in the rpm range. There is probably a sticky somewhere (google) that says 5 degrees on 7MGTE stock did, whatever it did.

The other VSV I had fail over 18 years was the for the vacuum reservoir on the 7MGE manifold.

    Fuel Pressure Up VSV

JJ unfroze a VSV once. There was a post when he mentioned it. It also seems like the VSV is the same for multiple uses. You might try a different unit. Mine died on my 91, causing the problems you have. You could just have too low of fuel pressure.

Timing Setups with stock cams and pump gas

I recommend you start at zero, or "straight up". Regardless of car. I have seen adjustable cam gears installed on many cars. And find your own sweet spot.

Sputtering problem in high RPMs with ECT power button on??

At 4 degrees, the injection timing is also off. And more so the faster the engine speed. It isn't just the spark output. The CPS is used to tell where and when the engine is in its cycle.

You don't have to change the gear. Toyota is just telling you what is servicable and how to do it.
