If you're running tires that are over 6 years from when they are made you're taking a serious risk. There was a huge news story on it a few years ago...
NASCAR was going much faster. Energy increases at the square of velocity.
Yes chomoly is great when properly constructed. But, it still has to be constantly inspected for cracks at the welds. Aircraft have the same issues and they spend a hell of a lot more than your average racer...
Easy, don't sandblast the inside. Sand inside the engine is bad mmmkay?
Also, sandblasting will ruin the finish on the casting (trust me, I know) it's better to clean with chemicals.
This is a LHD supra, right? Just gonna make sure ;)
If so, then yes, the driver's side is held firm in the assembly through the sheetmetal around it and welding.
I wish you the best, I'd just rather you find out now that your compression ratio is not what you think instead of later and be disappointed.
Any timeline on when you'll have it all together, installed, and running? I'd love to hear an ITB 7M scream...
Keep in mind the passenger side insert is on a slide, do NOT weld it.
You're supposed to tighten the back bolts then the driver's side, then the passenger side. If you tighten the passenger side first you'll strip the driver's side (previous owner made this mistake on my car)
6M block = early 7M block
5M compression is either 8.8:1 or 9.2:1 and the 7M-GE compression is 9.1:1... I think you might have dropped compression since you still have the clearance for a 2 valve head...
[flamesuit on]
Looks clean except for the worn shift knob and the somewhat dirty engine bay (most people don't clean under the hood).
Worth 6K... Too bad I don't like white
Not a problem, I love a good debate
Honestly, it's like heim joints and aftermarket aluminum suspension arms. They're race items that need to be inspected often and have no place on a street car IMHO. This also includes road course racing (SCCA banned chromoly).
