    Cleaning Engine?

Well, the AFM, alternator, TPS, stuff like that. As long as you're careful to avoid jetting directly onto things you won't have a problem. And as the other poster said, clean the delicate and real grimey stuff by hand, washdown with the engine warm and run it afterwards to dry everything off...

    Cleaning Engine?

No flame my man, Shaeff would cut my balls off.....and rightly so ;) Cleaning an engine is like painting in that most of it's prep work. Just scrunch the foil tight around whatever it is you want to seal. Seal everything up and spray with a mild solvent then use a hose rather than a power...

    Cleaning Engine?

What Kyle said. Bag the AFF, Alt, ect and use aluminum foil around connectors or any other things you're worried about then have at it. I do it twice a year and never had a problem. Afterwards do what you can to keep it clean (fix leaks, ect) so it never gets outta hand.

    EFI question

I may know the minutia.of EFI but I'love to sit and pick your brain on other stuff. I've learned a lot about mechanicals from your posts and the next time I make it down there we should hook up.

    EFI question

IJ: Can't do that, a resistor won't simulate an O2 sensor as it's not a resitive input. The ECU needs to see a cross count above and below stoichio. I could hook up a frequency generator to it but I've already tried two different sensors and drove them full lean and rich while in the car. I also...

    EFI question

Thanks Shaeff but it's leanest at idle and since the TCCS ignores thotttle input whenever the IDL contacs are made and an open contact would result in MIL indication it has to be something else. Fwiw, in an EFI system (or any control loop for that matter) an offset in setpoint while the loop...

    EFI question

Thought I'd throw this out on the off chance someone might be here who does in depth EFI and emissions diag. Check a friend's Supra today prior to going in for smog. The car is stock. Engine is running an A/F of 16.5 at idle and about 15.5 at all other times. Needless to say NOx is high. What...

    Deuce Haters!

I'm not taking sides on this but as another "old loser" I'll offer two thoughts: 1) It's just a friggin car. It means squat in the big scheme of things. In 10 years a majority of you will wonder: a) what all the fuss was about and b) how you could've possibly been dumb enough to spend what you...

    Alternator bearings

Thanx GJ. I usually do the same but was hoping to get some before I tore it down. Thought someone might know the numbers off hand but I suppose most just replace the alt. I may do that anyway but I've always had better luck rebuilding them myself. At least the brushes on the Supra's alt are...

What's the best options to put inside our POP-UPS?

I've known Dan for serveral years. He does indeed know his stuff. He can be a little touchy at times (as can any true expert) when it comes to some of the lighting crap being sold today but he's genuinely willing to set someone up with the best lighting available based on science and his...

    Alternator bearings

Anyone know the numbers? Not the Toyota p/n either. And don't tell me to just buy a rebuilt Alt. Not my style ;)

strange RPM's after starting up warm

It's in the book but the deal is that during a hot start the ecu will (because it knows coolant temp) use the VSV to disconnect the FPR hose from the intake manfold and keep it vented to atmospheric pressure. This causes the fuel pressure to stay high until the ecu again connects the FPR to the...

    is my tranny toast

Sounds like it. Looks like you and I are in the same boat. Does the diff otherwise run OK? Any noises? All this still doesn't resolve the original issue though. Data plate should be on the firewall but all it might do is indicate LSD.

    help with emissions

It's rich alright. Check what T344 said. If it's been like that for awhile it hasn't been doing your cat any good either. Any codes? Is the engine running in closed loop? O2 sensor cross counting? Airfilter and induction system clear?

    is my tranny toast

I've never heard of a US model that came with a Torsen but I've been wrong before. The diff code on your data plate might shed some light on that.

    is my tranny toast

Ok thanks. Damn, now I'm gonna have to jack it up and see what it's doing for sure. I've had a torsen lying around for years but never bothered to put it in. Might be time.

    is my tranny toast

Hmmm....I have an LSD and could swear they turn opposite when in the air. Might be my other car though. So when the packs are gone the diff will go open and there won't be any other symptoms?

    general afm ?'s

Geek? Look who's talking ;) My geekness just goes beyond cars. Before becoming a professional pilot I spent years as a machine design engineer so I know enough to be dangerous about lots of things, from electronics to hydraulics and everything in between. Since both are very technical...
