Speaking of the Theft Deterrent look at it's wiring in that early EWD. So bad I had to ring most of it out on my own years ago. Fwiw that relay was never at fault with the "mystery" starting problem on the cars I've fix. And my USDM car with original wiring and stock components in that circuit...
That looks to be a resistive type sending unit. The USDM gage will not work with it and there is a fair chance the gage was toasted by having it in there. To check remove the wire from the sending unit and ground it, but only as long as it takes to see the gage move. Do not leave it grounded...
The manual covers both and yes, it is appreciated. It might sway me from having to constantly pull mine off the shelf to answer questions, although I find dealing with the actual books easier.
David: Stock timing is 10 BTDC with the diag bock jumped. If that BOV isn't recirced it could be the problem.
Eric: Fix the sticky throttle and check that the TPS is set right. Do the dashpot last. Can't have any exhaust leaks either...
If what is unhooked? The ISCV? No, it's an output with no direct feedback to the ECU. Nor is there a software function that'll set a code if target idle isn't met. Look at the code list....there isn't one concerning operation of the ISC system.
What you're suggesting will work. As long the engine receives air that's bypassed the throttle plate it'll idle. It doesn't care where that air comes from as long as it's been metered.
How can the cold start injector make the car run rich at *any* idle speed if doesn't operate unless the engine is cranking? That's why it's called a cold "start" injector and not a cold "warmup" injector. One of us is confused....
^ As configured your engine should not do this. Ever. Something is wrong. Likely the decel cutoff isn't working or the dashpot is busted/set up wrong.
It'd be helpful if the OP would clarify exactly what's happening. Backfire is an induction system event. Afterfire (also known as muffler...
It gets old repeating this but since I'm such a nice guy I'll do it again: It's impossible for the cold start injector to work unless the engine is being cranked.
I understand you being whatever that is above but several of your posts, including that last one, contain misinformation. This being the Tech Section I suggest in the future you check your facts before posting...
I break them in the hard way. Never had a problem.
Fwiw piston aviation engines (including turbo engines) are always done this way and they cost $25K just to rebuild. The engine is run for 1 minute to check for leaks. Since anything longer is detrimental the aircraft is then towed to the...
^ Not sure what you're getting at but removing the screw doesn't let fuel escape. Since it pops up whenever pressure is present it's still useful though. Course, removing it would defeat that usefulness ;)
Jdub is right as usual. As long as you have that code the ECU will "think" the engine is already hot from the moment you cold start it. Therefore it will not provide cold start enrichment, warm up enrichment, warm up timing advance, or cold idle speed control. Put in less technical terms it'll...
