In shaeff's defense those in the know here get tired of refuting the same old crap. It can be especially irritating when new people with "enough knowledge to be dangerous" show up. People who don't know what they don't know yet persist in giving advice which is more often than not wrong. The...
You mentioned code 34 in your other post. That and the lack of a 31 combined with your symptoms didn't make sense. The point of all this diagnostic effort was to reconcile that while finding the actual cause so you don't end up replace the wrong stuff. Buy another AFM. As CRE said, you had some...
I see. Unless I'm mistaken this is the first time in the entire thread you've mentioned code 31. No more withholding eh?
That code is defined as no volumetric air flow signal to the ECU for 2 seconds or more with engine speed above 300 rpm. Assuming the AFM is getting 5 volts on Vc and...

Should be 2-4 volts. 5 with the engine running indicates a steady state signal. Based on the engine running the same with or without it I'd say it's dead. Only way to know for sure is with a decent meter or better yet a scope...
Yes, it should fluctuate. About 19-22 hertz at idle. Your meter will probably only show something like a volt though, referenced to E1 or chassis ground. Again, you should measure the frequency. Your meter does that right?
Toyota Computer Control System. The proper name for your ECU...the real proper name for which is PCM
Hey 92 nsx. No comeback but I'll be injecting grief into select threads on occasion ;)
If the engine behaves the same with or without the AFM connected, the MIL is on, *and* an AFM code is...
If it won't go over 3000 rpm that'd confirm Fail Safe but CRE is likely right. It's exactly why I told the OP to unplug the AFM and try it.
Frankly I'm puzzled why this seems so hard to resolve. Ks is easily tested with any decent DMM and if it checks out the causes of code 34 are well known.
Just yankin' yer chain is all. As an EE and the former electrical SME here I derive fair amounts of entertainment out of electrically related posts. Trust me, you're not alone...
^ Because I got such a chuckle over the pseudo science in post 4 I'll help you out: it's a condenser used as a low pass filter to remove ripple induced noise...
Got news for you Sparky: carbon dust usually is black. And I'm curious to see how long it's gonna take you to figure out the secret of putting that brush holder back on...
The HAC is a trim sensor and even if it was shifted wouldn't cause those symptoms. In your case not having one is actually a blessing from a troubleshooting standpoint.
Unplug the AFM and see if there's improvement. Contrary to popular belief as long as you're easy on the pedal and don't go...
Since I was born and raised in Plymouth I'll ignore the Thanksgiving comment ;)
Fuel pump: Assuming the pump runs you need to check pressure being delivered to the rail. Flow can be checked by putting the supply line into a container and timing how much you get in 30 seconds.
Harness: No...
Bigbutt: Iirc the 710 is the same but lacks DVD. Both run Windows CE which can be corrupted if power is interrupted during boot up, which is longish even when working. I recommend putting a separate power switch in the car for that reason and not turning the thing on until after the engine is...
