It appears I missed whatever fireworks occurred but nice to know the mods were on top of it. I did receive some PMs from a poster in this thread however. My thanks go out to him for the entertainment.
What doesn't help is being cheap. The market for these refrigerants is no different than...
Turns out the specs I listed from the 87 book are wrong. Check the other post.
I'm an EE by training. Spent a long time in machine design, robotics, process control and industrial automation. No longer do it but competent enough I guess. At least in those aspects of it. I'm weak in analog and RF.
OK, I think I know why those specs aren't in newer manuals. They're wrong. In all my years of dickin' around with these cars I never resistance tested the Karman pins because it's just easier to dynamically test the AFM on the car or bench. So I decided to measure a known good one I still have...
My Delorean still uses it Nick but I'll let you know when it's time. Last I checked it was close to being a full 30 pounder.
608 is non-MVAC. There are three levels to it. A 608 Universal allows one to work on pretty much any type/size system. It's a little tougher to get than a 609 ;)
I understood what you meant but was simply saying it's not much of a method for confirming the AFM is good. Course, now that we know newer books only show IAT sensor specs the test sucks even more than I thought :)
10 inches? Ugh. Ah well, since the system wasn't open long you might get away with it. And at least you didn't use Freeze 12. That stuff is bad news...
Regardless, there are much faster and easier ways to check. If there's nothing wrong in there it was time wasted and contrary to what you may think your time is the most valuable thing you'll ever own. Squander it not. Trust me on this...
HC blends are effective refrigerants but have always been controversial for MVAC use. The gum'mint doesn't want them used in cars mainly because of the lines aren't hard plumbed like they are in fixed systems. It's what happened to that guy's Porsche. Legalities aside it's your call but all...
My bad. I'm going by an 87 TSRM which is all I have. Page FI 78, Air Flow Meter (7MGTE).
Unsure about newer manuals but they aren't in the online one. Wouldn't be only thing Toyota deleted from later books. The detailed AC compressor rebuild for example. Anyway:
Ks > E1: infinity
E1 > Ks...
He blow'd up real good.
The moronic introduction of ignition sources into an atmosphere of explosive gases aside here's the legal status of HC12a (what ES12a is) :
http://www.epa.gov/Ozone/snap/refrigerants/hc-12a.html
It's not illegal to sell. It's definitely illegal for use in MVAC. Dumb too...
Well, it's your car and you can use ES12a if you wish. Lets hope you don't end up like this guy though:
http://www.imcool.com/articles/aircondition/Porsche_928_Refrigerant_Fire.php
Ask idiot questions and you'll get idiot answers. And I would think someone old enough to drive would be beyond the learning stage of what "illegal" means.
Other concerns aside the HC blends have limited flammability as long as they're used correctly. Problem is many people don't. And there...
Sorry, thought I covered this with you a few days back. Must have been someone with a similar handle.
OX is the raw signal from the O2 sensor. You can find it in the diag block. Vf emulates OX (but at a higher signal level) when in diag mode (same as when checking codes) and whenever the...
The EPA doesn't have the time or resources to chase everyone down
You don't understand what propane/butane are? There's plenty wrong with using it. First, it's flammable. Second, there's not a shop that'll touch the car after it's in there. Third, if the system isn't properly prepared it will...
Good luck Sir. The Series III is a fine instrument (mine served me well) but lacking in some ways. I've moved on to better.
Nick: Looks like you figured it out :)
HC based. Propane and/or butane iirc. Illegal in the US. Not that these substances don't make decent refrigerants because they do, just that you shouldn't use them. Not to mention if someone is dumb enough to put propane in the car they could simply go to the store and buy it for less money...
Mixture is going to be richer on a cold engine and the CSI doesn't operate unless the key is in the start position. Doesn't mean it can't leak though.
You could use the Vf emulation of the NB but I prefer to use OX (didn't we just go through this?) as it can be employed without being in diag...
Well, if you pulled an injector and there was no change I'd be relying on something else instead of that LC1. In fact you should be using the NB to troubleshoot closed loop issues anyway. More accurate.
