    Exhaust sputtering and engine shaking

    Does it stutter on acceleration? If so, I would check the spark plug valley for contamination- especially water. ANY water in the spark valley will cause a misfire, and it will also cause the "put-put-put" and shaking you mention.

    fuel pulse damper solution

    Cool find. How much do they run? I just did this for mine: It allows direct hookup to AN6, and came with the proper sized upper and lower crush washers. $13. Also, I like that you took the time to sleeve your fuel line there. I found that the 90's Toyota trucks utilize a rubber...

    PS- I have a brand new direct fit Denso O2 sensor in the box. Lemme know if you want it.

    Help with Maintenance

    Change the exhaust for new oem exhaust. Yes, replace the valve cover gaskets. I don't think you should replace the head gasket unless it fails a block test. Have the bolts properly retorqued, and you'll be fine for a LONG time. If you mod this car or put a single aftermarket, "JDM-tyte"...

    Project Git 'er done!: Stages 1, 2, 3, 4....Stage 5- Reassembly after 13 years!!!

    Well yeah, but I "pulled the plug" on it again. I have no reason to finalize the battery mounting until I reinstall the headlights.

    1986.5 7mge -> 2jzge my very first build.

    I really haven't heard of any cons, just the time and $$ to install it, which is reasonable. And Adam- How much have you spent on tuning? You've been down there twice for a couple of hours each time, right? You shouldn't be charged more than $100 per hour, I'd hope.

    Project Git 'er done!: Stages 1, 2, 3, 4....Stage 5- Reassembly after 13 years!!!

    No pics today. I received my 4 gauge battery cables today, so I mounted them up. I'm waiting on some 10mm i.d. silicone hose, so that I can 'sleeve' the positive cable, for added abrasion insurance. I will say that it was nice to hear the 'key-in' warning chime when I tested the connections to...

    1986.5 7mge -> 2jzge my very first build.

    I would say first finish the mods you planned for the ignition, and then see where you are. I think your current setup can do better.

    need help stuck on the road

    Yes, If my car dies while driving, I will check my killswitch first as well. But, seeing as won't be installing it on the seat cushion or the headrest, It'll be hard to imagine how I accidentally hit it... Sorry. Had to. ;)

    My new baby 06/23/2013

    Um No. The added reinforcement for the targa version is not the equivalent of 4 football players sitting in the car. Targa reinforcement adds 86lbs.

    Project Git 'er done!: Stages 1, 2, 3, 4....Stage 5- Reassembly after 13 years!!!

    Agreed, but space is an issue. I am trying my best, though, to give the merge as much downward angle as possible. PS- I've been trying to re-use the screamer pipe's stainless flange, but it's twice as thick as the one that came with the wastegate. So I'll be switching to the narrower one so...

    Project Git 'er done!: Stages 1, 2, 3, 4....Stage 5- Reassembly after 13 years!!!

    I have about 2" between the pipe and the wastegate. That means that I'll be cutting a 90 degree elbow to make a sharp turn.

    Still working on the DP/ wastegate plumbing. Went to Lowe's today and picked up some lag screws for the manifold. "Why on earth would you need lag screws?" Well, to make my jig, of course. I just needed to temporarily bolt a 2x4 to my shelving, so that I could mock up the...

    88 Blue Turbo restoration/upgrade story

    Awesome! Glad to see that you're near completion on the drivetrain work! I've been watching your build, noting all the parallels between yours and mine, as well as taking notes on how i could steal some of your methodology.

    Was reading a technical service bulletin on Dex VI earlier today. Sounds like good stuff. Also mentioned that the viscosity doesn't break down like DexIII.

    Cam sprocket bolt hole stripped

    Lol yeah. "Cam sprocket hole" title is a wee bit misleading. Get it helicoiled and you should have no issues.

    Lol. Um, i dont think i meant to say all that, but it sounds good. I really had no problem just using the original cooling pipe, but a couple people suggested a cooler. I didnt know about the steering failures in racing events, but i dont plan on racing this car at all. Not familar with Dex 6.
