Make sure your battery is disconnected while you're at it, nobody likes getting shocked when they're pulling the wires off the alt and connect a wrench to ground. ;)

Generally speaking mine idles anywhere from 900-1100 rpm. However, my ISCV is pretty much shot, so it's all mechanical adjustment to get mine to where it will be consistent. On a rare occasion the ISCV decides to work and it will idle about 1300-1400, and it gets COLD here.

If you're into classic iron, this sort of thing is pretty much a pre-requisite to ownership. My brother has welded, patched, and sanded more of his Impalas than I can even remember. End result has come out nicely though. On the subject of patch panels though, if one were looking to make a nice...
