It's not difficult to drill/tap the block adapter for 1/8 NPT threads ;)
There's another 1/8 BSPT port forward of the stock sensor location for another pressure sender...that would be the best place to measure pressure since it's in the main channel feeding the bearings.
For oil temp, I...
Fixed it for you ;)
A star washer between the grommet and bolt head will make that problem go away. Stainless hex cap bolts do look nice though.
Just make sure you do not over torque these...that's why the philips head bolts were used in the 1st place. The torque spec is...
That looks like the same manifold a bunch of guys here run...if so, the stock filter head is a tight fit.
A better idea:
Use this for the block on a NA stud:

Dump the stock filter head and install a...
I realize what I said and the point of "going way over on this" is no IGf = no fuel injection, not no spark. In either case a code 14 shuts the motor down...you keep forgetting the car was running and shut down.
Based on your "shuts everything down" comment:
Preceded by this:
I had to...
As long as you know, if the block deck is not straight, it is very unlikely even a composite HG will seal. Hate to see you do all that work just to have to re-do it ;)
Chris - you're missing it.
During engine start, ignition is controlled through the back-up IC in the ECU...it's relevant signals are G, Ne and STA...it outputs IGt. It could care less about IGf during engine start (STA active). The back-up IC is "dumb", it will happily continue sending IGt...
Taking into consideration what I said above about Red Line, it is one of the top oils on the market...it's base stock is 2nd to none. Can I justify buying it at increased cost? No, I can't, but I don't fault anyone for using it either.
Amsoil is also a very good oil, but it is also...
Just so you know, during engine start the STA signal tells the ECU to use memory values for timing (backup IC) and injector duration (based on coolant temp). Ne is the other relevant signal during start.
IGf is an ignition confirmation signal to the ECU (the coil fired)...it's possibe to get...
You're making a lot of assumptions Chris...and, you know what they say about that ;)
#1 You keep assuming he's getting spark (I'm not making that assumption)
#2 You are assuming the ECU sees a NE or G signal when it's started...if it doesn't, the car will not start. Both FI and ignition...
My biggest beef with Amsoil is how they market and jack prices up. It is a good oil though and if you can get it cheap, I'd use it.
GC IMO has a better additive pack and you can catch sales promotions on it if you watch the paper (I bought a case at around $5 a qt a while back). Amsoil...
Hate to disagree, but what about a code 11 or 13 (kinda like a 12)? How about code 14? It can put the ECU in fail-safe and stop fuel injection ;)
Don't assume he's getting spark...he never answered when you asked again. And, he never told you how he "thinks" it's getting spark...
A 1JZ valve clearance worksheet complements of zoppii...much appreciated.
I have to verified the accuracy of this (don't have a 1JZ). If anyone finds a descreprency, please post it up here and it will get corrected.
Sounds like you are asking opinions...I almost moved this thread out of the Lube section for that reason...it's for more technical type questions.
So, I'm going to give you a technical answer...shouldn't be hard to figure out ;)
Concerning the Amsoil EaO filter, it's the best of the...
So...let me get this straight. You said in post #1 that this was a 7M and now you say it's a 2JZ? Or, are you saying you have a 2JZ short block with a 7M head?
A short will do it. So will bad capacitors (1JZ ECU's a famous for this one). Since none of us can see said ECU or car (including JJ), to tell you it's one vs the other or something else is pure speculation.
It’s actually both ;)
However, clearances play the major role along with the overall characteristics of the engine. You are limited by the TSRM bearing clearances, in the case of a 5W-20, on the min spec. The long crankshaft and its tendency to flex also plays a role. Additionally...
