    Low idle oil pressure?

I'd try 5-50w and see were the pressure is. With 80k miles things maybe wearing out a little. If that doesn't help then you might be looking at a rebuild to get the pressure up. Is it a rebuild 80k ago? Was the oil pump replaced at that time? 50 lbs at 3k is pretty good pressure.

    crank

Depends on how bad you scored the crank, lot's of times they can be turned and use larger size bearings.

    Fluctuating temperature gauge

I don't understand some of what you are talking about, but the sensor wire is on the left side of the housing that the thermostat is mounted on, if memory serves me right, it's yellow. Check to make sure of your connection, I had to pinch the conector a little to make a good connection.

Have you checked the wire that goes to the temp gauge. Mine was fluctuating and the wire just needed some attention.

    What to do?

You will be better off IMO to rebuild what you have, at least you know what you'll have instead of not knowing what you are going to get.

    crank

You may not need a new crank, you have to have it checked to see if it can be reground. Then the machinist will mic it and tell you what size bearings you will need. It's best if you let them mic it and set the crank and pistons so they can size the bearings. Another thing is you will have to...
