The ECT box is the trans computer, disconnet it and you can still shift manually using the shifter.
This will tell you if it's mechanical or electronic.
Keep in mind it won't lock the converter.
1= 1st and 2nd
2= 3rd
D= 4th
If it's aligned for the correct ride height there will be minimal toe/camber change in it's normal range of travel. (when I had my Koni's built I had them short stroke the shocks to further lessen the amount of change)

Dead shocks will be lots of small deflection oscilations and minimal toe change so I can't see it being an issue.

Personally I wouldn't trust an electric as the sole pump, point in case mine had popped a fuse but as it's winter here the car was running stone cold anyway so I didn't notice (doh)
If it were my only pump I'd have been in deep shit.
