This is why good 4 piston callipers have staggered size pistons, it prevents the leading edge digging in and wearing on an angle.
Single piston floating callipers like the Mk3 ones aren't too bad until they begin to wear on the sliders, then they cock to the side.
Probably a broken cable.
There are 2 sections in it.
Upper is a bit of a pain to change out so check the lower first.

I change out my ARP's and the 2000 series bolts in the Pauter Rods every 3rd>4th rebuild/teardown just to be safe.
There is probably no reason at all to do this but having lost an engine to a rod bolt in the old days it's cheap insurance.
