Yes somewhat, the cams have a coating of babbit material on them that's soft and looks terrible.
Excessive wear isn't normal though so show us what you're seeing.

Think about it the slots are angled, for them to "cut" the pad the pad would need to deform into the slot enough that the edge could take a slice.
Being angled means at any one time you have 99% supported on the face of the disc.
It would also mean slotted...
From memory the JE's are the lightest, make sure you're comparing the same sizes. ie: All std's from each brand or all +40's.
(some don't make std's so list their OS weights other list the std as it's usually the lightest)

It was on the shortlist as a light chassis for all my running gear but I felt the same about the common thing!
I might see a mk3 maybe once every 3>4 months but I see Silvias almost daily here so they must have been really cheap to import or something.
Power is power I don't care who made or what configuration the engine it as long as it does the job I require.
