New pistons in old holes is a bad idea as they're NOT going to be straight and round.
Even a light hone to break the cylinder glazing is going to make the piston to bore clearence way too big for cast pistons and it will slap like a bitch.

As I said though you can drive around it using the Shifter/OD button but it's never going to drive like a GM trans with a full manual valve body.

I find the longest part of the job is cleaning up the mess after I pull the pan, apart from that it's pretty quick to do, cordless driver for the pan bolts speeds it up no end and it's a good chance to throw a screen at it while you're in there.
Don't know the 340 is the first electronic controlled trans I've used, any other auto car I've had always ran a TH400, dumb but effective at the time.
I assume cars that come with button/paddle shifters don't behave that way.
